Lake Eyre is an endorheic lake in Far North South Australia, approximately 700 km north of Adelaide. The shallow lake is the depocentre of the vast endorheic Lake Eyre basin, and contains the lowest natural point in Australia at approximately 15 m below sea level. During the rare occasions that it fills completely, Lake Eyre is the largest lake in Australia covering an area up to 9,500 km2. When the lake is full, it has the same salinity level as seawater, but becomes hypersaline as the lake dries up and the water evaporates.
As an artist, I endeavour to creatively capture the glorious patterns the earth provides. My intention is to allow the land to speak for itself. The creative process involved in my work drives me tirlessly on a endless journey eagerly chasing what the universe will deliver next. In December of 2020, my friend Adam and I spent fifteen hours, over ten days flying in a light aircraft called a GippsAero GA8 Airvan 8 with the back door open. We instructed our pilot Jake, to fly in corkscrews making side bank passes of details we chose to photograph.
